Children's Classes (Ages 8-12) - Tuesdays Mornings
in July & August
July 5 (10:00-12:00am): WIND POWERED ART – PAPER SCULPTURES
Instructor: Simon Paddock, Elementary Art Teacher
During this class students will create imaginative kinetic sculptures powered by wind. Mobiles, kites and pinwheels all decorated using a variety of art materials.
July 12 (10:00-12:00am): STILL LIFE – PRINTMAKING
Instructor: Simon Paddock, Elementary Art Teacher
Students will use a floral still life as a theme to create a print. Each student will begin by sketching from the still life. They will construct their printing plate using a variety of material and make a limited edition run of their image.
July 19 (10:00-12:00am): SEA CREATURES – RECYCLED MATERIALS
Instructor: Simon Paddock, Elementary Art Teacher
Students will create a number of different sea creatures from a collection of recycled materials.
July 26 (10:00-12:00am): GLOUCESTER HARBOR – ACRYLIC PAINTING
Instructor: Simon Paddock, Elementary Art Teacher
Using the inner harbor as inspiration, students will sketch a composition that will then be turned into a painting.
August 2 (10:00-12:00am): COLLAGE & MIXED MEDIA
Instructor: Kathy Hilliard - this is a substitution for Deb Nypaver's classes.
August 9 (10:00-12:00am): STILL LIFE PAINTING
Instructor: Bonnie Gray - this is a substitution for Deb Nypaver's classes.

Teen Classes (Ages 13-19) - Tuesday Afternoons
in July & August
July 5 & 12 (1:00-4:00pm): Plein Air painting in oil
Instructor: George Martin, artist and President of NSAA
Students will go outside on the grounds of NSAA, located on beautiful Smith Cove, to paint a scene of their choice. Individual instruction will be given.
July 19 & 26 (1:00-4:00pm): Plein Air painting in oil August 2 & 9 (1:00-4:00pm): Still Life painting The fee for each class is $15. Students are welcome to take one or all six workshops, although it is recommended that both workshops given by one instructor be taken in order to complete the painting started in the first class. A list of necessary supplies will be provided upon registration.
Instructor: David P. Curtis, artist and teacher
Class will begin with a short on-site (Smith’s Cove) demonstration on the principles of painting outdoors. After selecting their own subject and laying in their composition, Mr.Curtis will circulate to give individual instruction to each student.
Instructor: Mark Hayden, artist and teacher
Class will be held in the studio at NSAA. Concept, drawing, values, color and texture will be emphasized. Students may use any medium.
